You Must Program Yourself On Purpose
Aug 14, 2023If you don’t consciously program your mind, others will program it for you.
This programming begins in childhood.
Around ages 0-2, your amygdala and emotional circuitry forms.
Your parents install the first programs, teaching you what to think, believe, and find acceptable.
Around ages 3-6, your limbic system matures.
Now teachers begin programming you on how to behave and meet societal standards. You absorb information like a sponge, trusting the programming.
Around ages 7-11, your frontal cortex starts developing.
This is the rational, thinking part of the brain. Now you begin questioning the programs installed by others.
In adolescence, your brain goes through intense pruning and wiring.
It shreds weak connections while strengthening networks that are repeatedly used. This primes you to lock in your own identity and beliefs.
But most people simply accept the default programming of their upbringing and culture.
Their neural networks reflect the same thought patterns as those around them. Fitting in and harmony matter more than conscious choice.
To break free, you must override the default settings.
Actively choose experiences that will rewire your brain toward your desired identity. Strengthen neural connections that serve your authentic self.
What matters most to you?
What do you want to achieve in life?
What are you willing to think, feel, and experience?
Your brain can always form new circuits, no matter your age. But conscious reprogramming takes work.
You must repeat desired thoughts and experiences until they become automatic habits.
